Longton Governing Body
CHARTER ORDINANCE NO. 7 outlines elections, terms of office, and vacancies. Longton is a third-class city represented by a mayor and five council members, all of whom serve four-year terms. General elections for Longton are held every two years in November.
To become a candidate for city office:
1. File a declaration of candidacy, accompanied by the $20 fee.
2. File a nomination petition with signatures from 10% of the qualified electors of the City of Longton.

Meetings of the Longton Governing Body are open to the public pursuant to the KANSAS OPEN MEETING ACT, and the agenda each month allows for a timely public forum. Citizens are encouraged to speak during the public forum to address any concerns, comments, or compliments.
